BATSE and GOES Strong Solar Flare Data

ResourceID
spase://NASA/Catalog/CGRO/BATSE/SolarFlare

Description

The BATSE Strong Solar Flare Catalog compiles intense solar flare events recorded by the Burst and Transient Source Experiment (BATSE) and correlated with GOES X-ray satellite observations.
BATSE Instrument: Aboard the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory, featuring eight large-area scintillation detectors providing full-sky coverage for hard X-rays and gamma rays.
Energy Channels: Measures hard X-ray count rates across four standard discriminator bands (25–50, 50–100, 100–300, and above 300 keV) with a time resolution of 1.024 seconds.
GOES Correlation: Provides soft X-ray background and flare class data to verify and complement the hard X-ray timing and intensity profiles captured by BATSE.
Catalog Criteria: Focuses primarily on strong solar events, often cataloging flares with peak count rates exceeding 100,000 counts per second (cps) in specific energy windows.
