The Extreme Ultraviolet and X-Ray Irradiance Sensors (EXIS) is a suite of solar irradiance sensors on the GOES-16 spacecraft. EXIS measures solar irradiance at extreme ultraviolet and soft X-ray wavelengths for monitoring solar activity and its effects on the Earth's upper atmosphere.
EXIS consists of two primary instruments: the Extreme Ultraviolet Sensor (EUVS) and the X-Ray Sensor (XRS). EUVS measures solar spectral irradiance at selected extreme ultraviolet and far ultraviolet wavelengths, while XRS measures broadband solar soft X-ray irradiance.
EXIS is mounted on the Sun-Pointing Platform of the GOES-16 spacecraft and provides observations used for solar flare monitoring and for characterizing variations in solar irradiance that affect the ionosphere and thermosphere.
