GOES-16 EXIS/XRS science-quality Level 2 daily background (bkd1d) product distributed as a single NetCDF-4 file spanning the available observation period. It provides one daily X-ray background irradiance estimate and one daily mean irradiance for each of the XRS-A (0.05–0.4 nm) and XRS-B (0.1–0.8 nm) channels, together with daily mean coverage fractions and quality flags. Background values are derived from one-minute average XRS measurements: hourly means are calculated, the minimum hourly mean is selected within each of three eight-hour blocks, and the background is the lower of the central block minimum and the average of the minima from the first and third blocks. The science-quality data are retrospectively reprocessed and distributed separately from the operational data. Consult the XRS Level 2 ReadMe and User Guide for data interpretation.
