SOLAR-1, formerly known as the Space Weather Follow On-Lagrange 1 (SWFO-L1) mission, is a NOAA space weather observatory located near the Sun-Earth L1 point. The mission provides continuous, real-time observations of the solar corona and upstream solar wind to support operational space weather forecasting. SOLAR-1 carries four instruments: the Compact Coronagraph-2 (CCOR-2), Solar Wind Plasma Sensor (SWiPS), SupraThermal Ion Sensor (STIS), and Magnetometer (MAG). Together, these instruments provide coronal imaging and in situ measurements of solar wind plasma, suprathermal particles, and the interplanetary magnetic field. SOLAR-1 is the first observatory in NOAA's SOLAR series.
