Description

The Radiation Assessment Detector (RAD) is an energetic particle instrument aboard the Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity rover. RAD measures and characterizes the energetic particle radiation environment during the cruise to Mars and on the Martian surface, including charged particles and secondary neutral radiation. The measurements support studies of the Martian radiation environment, surface habitability, and radiation hazards relevant to future human exploration of Mars.
