The Compact Coronagraph-2 (CCOR-2) is a white-light coronagraph aboard SOLAR-1 that observes the density structure of the solar corona and detects coronal mass ejections (CMEs) shortly after they erupt. Operating near the Sun-Earth L1 point, CCOR-2 provides continuous coronal imaging without the regular eclipses experienced by geostationary coronagraphs. The instrument has a field of view from approximately 3.0 to 23.5 solar radii and a nominal imaging cadence of 15 minutes. CCOR-2 observations support characterization of CMEs and operational forecasting of geomagnetic storms by NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center.
